Jeff, How did you get started in the DJ business?
In Jan of 1999, I was living in Florida and attended a school called F.A.M.E. "Florida Academy of Mobile Entertainment" I was sent there by a national multi-op DJ company the pros that I had been working at helping other DJs with music programming, mixing and of course the setup and teardown of the heavy audio and lighting equipment. Later that year I left that company to venture out on my own where I could have more contact with couples and clients requesting DJ services. I already had some speakers and other equipment from the karaoke shows I was hosting at bars up and down the beach. I would provide DJ services for quite a few weddings and parties over the next 5 years while I was there. In August of 2005, I relocated back to the Chicago area where I'm originally from and expanded my DJ service into more of a production company.
When was your first wedding?
My first wedding was a very small reception at an older hotel in St Pete Beach Florida and I do recall preparing for it for weeks I even had the introductions memorized I did not want to mess it up and surprised as I was it ended up being a great night everything went on without incident and I received my first good review from a great couple. That's it I was hooked... I still remember my first wedding when I moved back to Chicago now performing for larger weddings and events my first in Chicago back in 2005 was at Fountain Blue banquets in Rosemont for about 150 guests. I have performed providing DJ services for hundreds of weddings and events since then.
Can you describe your DJ MC Style?
My DJ and MC style can be described as organized smooth flowing interactive fun. Vocally I use the mic starting with an opening announcement welcoming everyone and letting everyone know what's going on and where everything is what to do what's coming up etc. Then throughout the event making only necessary announcements and running tasteful interactive activities on the dance floor. All introductions and announcements are made with professionalism and enthusiasm! Everything is planned for a smooth flow of events. It is not uncommon for me to spend 25-30 hours planning, programming and creating a unique entertainment experience that is personalized. When the dancing starts, I utilize a proven formula that entices people to come to the dance floor. Starting with slow beats of the heavy hitters and moving into the latest hits of today as the as the dance floor builds and the event progresses. I work with professional premium quality audio & lighting equipment and have commercial grade backup equipment on site in case of equipment failure. Over the years I have kept up with the latest trends and interactive activities by attending seminars, workshops, and conferences hosted by local and national DJ associations. My job is my life! I take great pride in what I do and am committed to making every event a complete success!
